St. Louis Caring Communities History Project
The St. Louis Caring Communities Program began on May 15, 1989, at Walbridge Elementary School in a north St. Louis neighborhood called Walnut Park. Support in the form of funding and other critical resources were provided by the Danforth Foundation and the Missouri Departments of Mental Health, Social Services, Elementary and Secondary Education and Health.

Caring Communities Teen Drop In Center Grand Opening
Caring Communities Teen Drop In Center (TDIC) opened in 1994 in the Walnut Park neighborhood as a beacon of hope for teens and youth in a neighborhood surrounded by gangs, crack houses, violence and poverty.. Freeman Bosley, Jr., Mayor of the City of St. Louis was one of several featured honored guests at the grand opening. Khatib A.F. Waheed, Executive Director of Walbridge Caring Communities takes guests on tour of facility.

Neighborhoods Under Siege Khatib A F Waheed Caring Communities
For a week, KMOV-TV Anchormen Julius Hunter and Larry Conners cover the neighborhood of Walnut Park in the early 1990's. The week-long special was called "Neighborhoods Under Siege" featuring anti-drug marches, early efforts of the COPS Program, the Walbridge Caring Communities Program and Co-Creator and Director of Caring Communities Khatib A.F. Waheed.
